Our Scottish Fold and Scottish Straight kittens are darling, smart, socialized, and nurtured in a healthy, loving environment. Scottish Fold Virginia was established adjacent to the lovely Shenandoah mountain range in Loudoun County, Virginia, west of Washington, D.C., in March 2020. In June 2022, we achieved CFA's 2022 Cattery of Excellence Award as well as the 2022 TICA Outstanding Cattery Award.
We are a small home-based breeder specializing in Scottish Fold kittens and cats. After over a year's data gathering and analysis, we traveled to Europe personally to select our cats from grand champion bloodlines while evaluating their personalities. Once the decision was made, and final health checks completed, we escorted them home, in-cabin, by air.
Our goal is to breed healthy, intelligent, well-socialized companion Scottish Fold and Scottish Straight cats and introduce them into their forever family.
Scottish Fold Virginia's breeder cats were sourced from trusted breeders worldwide. We specifically scrutinized bloodlines and physical and personality characteristics, obtained consultations, and evaluated medical records before making our selections. We remain committed to a healthy legacy for our bloodlines. For this reason, we tested all of our queens and sires for various genetic diseases and other genetic factors. (Please see the link to our FAQs Page for the entire list.) We also continue to monitor the health of the breeding cats' parentage. This is important when considering the overall suitability for breeding healthy kittens.
Our cats were registered with CFA and/or TICA and represent impressive bloodlines of renown, with many champions within the last seven generations. We registered our Cattery with TICA and CFA to assist in further registration of kittens and litters online for the convenience of our new pet families.
We provide the best available nutrition (custom and premium-plus foods and treats), love, and care in the home for proper socialization from birth. Once old enough, each cat is combed every day, teeth brushed every other day (at least), and is used to having their ears checked and cleaned, chins examined, etc., while laying on our laps. Everybody enjoys time on cat furniture, is exposed to lots of affection, and has multiple interactive games and family to interact with throughout the day.
Our residents are examined by licensed veterinarians who test for genetic disorders and general health indicators before entering our home. Each kitten, once born, receives all the initial inoculations required by local law before they go to their adoptive families. We may register our litters online with both CFA and TICA. In addition, we can assist with special arrangements such as preparation for international travel, obtaining cat passports (yes, that exists), additional inoculations, and official health records and certifications.
The results of tests and the medical history (and photo collection!) are provided to new owners to assure adoptive families of the best early-life care. In addition, we include all information related to the specific kitten and additional information related to their bloodline, rarity, and diet. Finally, each kitten's adoptive family may arrange for video visits before the time when the kitten is ready to be released.
Scottish Fold kittens and cats are very affectionate and non-aggressive animals. They are often smaller than other cats and have smaller noses, with round, cartoon-like, smiling faces.
The Scottish Fold and Scottish Straight breed are naturally inquisitive and fun to play with. They are gentle and engaging with children. These cats are known to be very loyal and loving, imprinting on one person in the household as specifically their "best friend." These cats maintain a presence nearby, though they may not be in your lap. Ours have been assigned various independent duties such as bird feeder surveillance or carpet robot supervision.
Scottish Fold and Scottish Straight cats can be trained to do tricks and come when called. However, they tend to do so out of wanting to please rather than looking for a treat. They look at a person carefully to note body posture and demeanor and often communicate with facial expression and unique postures involving body orientation, running while arching of the back (called "Halloween Cat"), and the tail's multiple expressive positions ("Up periscope," "Hello," and "let's play.").
